Good morning or God morning!

When my group of teens was reading the “Hobbit” this summer, we talked about a conversation between Bilbo and Gandalf. Gandalf comes by to invite Bilbo on an adventure.  Bilbo’s “Good Morning” speaks to the sun shining and the brilliant green grass.  Gandalf wants to know what the “Good Morning” means.  “Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?”  Finally, Bilbo reminds Gandalf that adventures make you late for dinner (a hobbit after my own heart!).  Bilbo finally says, “Good morning! We don’t want any adventures here, thank you!”  He means to get rid of Gandalf.

What is good about the morning?

So this morning, as I swipe ‘Good Morning’ to my husband because he is on the road, my phone typed in “God morning!” which seems to happen every time!  I actually think that it changes my day!  It’s not about whether I think it’s a good morning or I hope for a good morning.  It’s a reminder, (God is speaking to me!) that this morning is God’s!

Tricky business, adventures…
