TRANSFORMATION Part 3 – You, only better! …Although in Holy Communion we are at once united with Christ, his power within us develops gradually. …Nor will the eucharistic God alone transform us. He requires our free, generous cooperation. Only by stimulating our higher faculties can we imitate Christ’s life. …Although Christ dwells in us with His Body, Blood, Soul and […]
Sunday, March 17, 2019 Jesus takes his best friends, Peter, John and James, up the mountain to pray. Jesus face changed and his clothing became dazzling white. They saw 2 men appear next to him, Moses and Elijah, who spoke of how Jesus would ‘exit’ Jerusalem with his passion, death and resurrection. They also recall the ‘exodus’ from Egypt. Jesus leaving would free us, too, so we could enter the Promised Land. See www.usccb.org—Luke 9 (Footnotes for verses 28-36.) Peter wants to build tents so that they could all stay there. Pretty silly but understandable! Why would you want to leave? A cloud overshadows them and they hear a voice telling them that Jesus is the Son and they should listen to him. It is God, the Father. So much happens after that. Peter, John and James encounter Jesus and God the Father in their glory but they still don’t understand. They still make mistakes as they try to follow him and learn. Only John stays with Mary at the foot of the cross. Thank God for his patience and forgiveness! Today, we try to stay close to God in prayer and thanksgiving. We have the gift of the Eucharist in the Mass and Adoration on Thursdays. Try to come and stay with him an extra time this week and bask in the glow!
John 6 is as controversial today as it was when Jesus walked the Earth. Did He mean it or didn’t He? Was the bread really just a metaphor (Jn 6:51-58)? In the verses that follow, Jesus assures us, as we grumble amongst ourselves, that He is quite serious. Spoiler alert: When Jesus asks the Twelve (Apostles) if they want to […]
What is so special about bread? Jesus is the Bread of Life and explains more in the Gospel this week. (John 6) Whoever believes in Jesus will have eternal life. Wouldn’t you be like, what? He says it’s not like the manna they got in the dessert. You can get bread anywhere (just pick a store). Maybe you have a […]
This question has permeated any discussion our culture has had as long as I have been alive. It’s a timeless dilemma that threads through the Bible from the very beginning. I can’t change our culture’s mind about abortion. It’s too big of a task for me. I hope that in my high school speech class in the late 70’s, I […]
Ever had a dream that God blesses you and your family? I don’t know that many of us do. Catechists usually cover the OT story of Jacobs Ladder in 6th grade. Jacob comes upon a shrine in his travels and uses one of the stones as a pillow. I always find this interesting because I have never chosen a stone […]
