All things are possible with God.
Scripture focus for the February 7 Mass Jesus Heals the Sick all over Galilee Today’s Mass begins with Job crying out to the Lord in despair. Today, we might echo our own despair. Is this all there is? Why is life so hard? Why can’t I have an easy life like that guy over there? Can’t I just get a […]
The man in Sunday’s Gospel from Mark on 10/21/18 asks Jesus what more he needs to do. Hasn’t he done enough? He’s followed all the Commandments. He’s taken care of his parents. He’s a good person. What more does he need to do to get into heaven? Jesus surprises him with his answer. This man has not done enough. Give […]
In this week’s Sunday Scriptures, the Church gives us a few perspectives to think about. In the letter from St. James, he asks, “What good is it if someone has faith but does not have works?” Can we say go in peace and eat well to a person who has no food or shelter? Can we say, “Have a nice […]
The Scripture Readings for August 5 start with grumbling. Why are we so unsatisfied? The Lord provides the Israelites with the bread from heaven, manna. They get their fill and no more. Not starving, but not happy? Our 2nd Reading from Ephesians asks, “What are you thinking?” Are we thinking like Jesus? Put away your old self. You are made new in Christ! We need to start acting like it. How do I get ‘Donna 2.0’? Or maybe I’m at actually 127.0! What matters is to keep trying and making progress. Jesus reminds us in the Gospel from John that it was God who gave the manna. Moses couldn’t do it himself. Jesus promises to give us the bread of life. A bread that gives life to the world. We will always be unsatisfied with the bread we eat. We will be hungry again tomorrow! But Jesus said he was the Bread of Life. If we go to him, we will not be hungry or thirsty again. Are you satisfied? EX 16:2-4, 12-15 EPH 4:17, 20-24 August 5, 2018 Readings
What is so special about bread? Jesus is the Bread of Life and explains more in the Gospel this week. (John 6) Whoever believes in Jesus will have eternal life. Wouldn’t you be like, what? He says it’s not like the manna they got in the dessert. You can get bread anywhere (just pick a store). Maybe you have a […]
