Start Here and Now – Choose wisely!

Scripture focus for the October 10 Mass

What’s holding you back?

Wisdom 7:7

I prayed and prudence was given me;

I pleaded and the spirit of wisdom came to me.

Keep the Gifts of the Holy Spirit with you and all good things will come together. The Gift of Counsel perfects prudence. Knowing when to say or do something is a very important gift!

The Word of God is Living and Effective! (Hebrews 4:12-13)

Brothers and Sisters: Indeed the word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit…able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart. God sees and knows everything. The Holy Spirit can show you where you are going wrong. Ask God to help you see yourself as God sees you. God loves you and won’t leave you where you are at! He wants what is best for you!

The Rich Young Man

                  This Rich Young Man has been faithful all of his life. What else could he be lacking? How will he inherit eternal life? Jesus says that he is lacking one thing, “Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” The Young Man walks away sad. While his answer was shocking to the disciples, Jesus says that it’s easier to put a camel through a needle! Peter says that they gave up everything to follow Him! Jesus said, “For human beings it is impossible, but not for God. All things are possible with God.”

“The spirit of wisdom” is preferable to all else because it enables us to see all of reality with perfect clarity. This is what the rich young man lacks. He comes to Jesus weighed down by his own weaknesses and attachments, unaware that his greatest treasure is standing right before him, looking at him with love. The disciples fear that total abandonment to Christ is impossible, but the Word of God in flesh is able to penetrate our hearts and make them capable of amazing generosity. We have only to pray, “fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy!” – Excerpt from the Sunday Mass, Magnificat Magazine
