Who’s number 1?
Who’s number one in your life? …love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength…He is One and there is no other than he. It’s a tall order. It requires you to be ‘all in.’ Don’t hold back. And if you try with all your might, you might be able to do the second greatest commandment to love your neighbor as yourself.
Do you love yourself? It sounds selfish after being told to love God above all things. Love can be difficult to understand. According to Aquinas, love is willing the good of another. What is best for them? Hard to know when we don’t know what is best for ourselves. Sometimes, the best advice we could give ourselves is our advice to someone else. Our judgment can be clouded by feelings, attachments and the bad tapes from our past. Love God first and above all things. Then you may be able to see yourself and others as God sees you. Put on God’s glasses and the mind of Christ. Then see what happens.
