The War Within Us

The Letter from James in Chapter 3 calls us out. War begins within us. Inside we are jealous, worried, insecure and uncertain. We don’t even get the reward of the result we want as we try to get what we want! We are warring within as we struggle to be good or at least better than we were the day before. These weak spots within us are the reason we lash out or create conflict. James advice is to find peace within and we will find peace ‘without’. Jesus says it is what we hold inside that defiles us. Matthew 15:19 – For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, unchastity, theft, false witness, blasphemy. Focusing on others keeps us from looking within.

Every day should be peace day!

Where do we find peace? How do we attain that peaceful heart? Scripture, prayer and reflection are the answer. Good people around us to inspire us and encourage us helps, too. Saints explain the way. So, what we put in is what comes out. Are you putting good things in? Focus on what is true, beautiful and good. Then you can be the witness to the love of God that he calls us to be. Cultivate peace. Choose wisely. And think.

Kids Connection – We Are What We Eat

Kids understand this comparison with what we eat. Do you want to look like a donut? Eat donuts. Want to be healthy, energetic and happy? Eat things that are good for you. This year’s challenge from the USCCB is to become witnesses for Jesus Christ. How do we look?
