Faith – The Fundamental Attitude

Fr. Fessio, Ignatius Press (publisher of Lumen Fidei in America), and Jesuit, called faith, “the fundamental attitude”.  I have never heard of it referred to that way although if asked, I would say that this so blatantly obvious.  As a teacher, we refer to faith as a gift from God and a theological virtue that requires practice to get good at.  Faith takes work.

Lumen Fidei refers to this as a great love that has been offered; and it will transform us.  Key words found in this encyclical are love, lights up and joy.  Your eyes should sparkle with joy in connection with your smile powered by your heart!

“In God’s gift of faith, a supernatural infused virtue, we realize that a great love has been offered us, a good word has been spoken to us, and that when we welcome that word, Jesus Christ the Word made flesh, the Holy Spirit transforms us, lights up our way to the future and enables us joyfully to advance along that way on wings of hope.” Lumen Fidei

This is not a bad way to live, truly live!  Love is the key to happiness and peace!  But this is a real love and Christ’s peace…a peace that the world cannot give.  What’s your attitude?
